Fans of the Brooklyn Nets have been holding their collective breath for weeks now.

That is because everyone has been wondering what will happen with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and their future on the team.

We don’t know where things stand right now, beyond the fact that Durant still wants to leave the team and Irving might be traded away too.

But we do know this: the Nets will not be playing a game on Christmas Day.

The Christmas schedule has leaked and while other struggling teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks are playing, the Nets are not.

Keith Smith summed it up well: “It’s notable that the Brooklyn Nets aren’t playing on Christmas Day. Cleary the NBA doesn’t feel comfortable giving a marquee slot to a team that could be in at least semi-rebuilding mode come Christmas.”

This is a point that everyone can acknowledge: the NBA doesn’t know what Brooklyn will look like on Christmas Day so why would they give a primetime national television spot to a squad that could be missing its biggest stars?

Kevin & Kyrie’s Future

The Nets probably would have received a spot on the Christmas schedule if the league knew Durant and Irving would be on the team.

The fact that there is so much uncertainty about their plans really hurts the team’s prospects.

Few people expected the drama around those two players would still be ongoing at this point in the offseason.

Yet, little has changed since the start of free agency, when Durant’s demands first leaked.

Both sides aren’t budging and we seem to be at a standstill.

The Nets won’t be entertaining fans on Christmas Day but they still might provide the best drama of the season.
