Victor Osimhen’s goal was not enough for Francesco Calzona’s Napoli as they were held to a 1-1 draw away to Cagliari.
Zito Luvumbo’s late equalizer denied the visitors all three points in the intense game.
Napoli, playing their first game under new coach Calzona, started positively, with Osimhen partnering Giacomo Raspadori up front.
Despite Napoli’s efforts, it was Cagliari who took the lead when Amir Rrahmani mistakenly scored an own goal from Gianluca Gaetano’s free kick, but was later disallowed for offside.
Napoli fought back and took the lead through Osimhen’s diving header, but they were unable to hold on as Luvumbo equalized in stoppage time with a fine finish.
The result leaves Napoli with work to do in their quest for European qualification, while Cagliari will be pleased with the spoils.
