MultiChoice, the company that owns DStv and GOtv, has adjusted the subscription prices for both services.
This change came after a court order instructed the pay television company to stop the price increase.
The adjustments are now visible on the company’s apps as of Sunday, June 16, 2024. MultiChoice had initially planned to challenge the order from the Competition Consumer Tribunal (CCT) due to a decrease in its subscriber base in Nigeria, losing over a million subscribers.
The new DStv prices have been revised, with Premium package subscribers now paying N29,500 instead of N37,000, Compact+ package subscribers paying N19,800 instead of N25,000, and so on.
Similarly, GOtv subscribers will now pay the previous rates for their packages. N5,700 for GOtv Max, N3,950 for GOtv Joli, and N2,700 for the lowest package, GOtv Jinja, which subscribers will now pay from the new N3,300 rate.
It is yet to be confirmed if MultiChoice will also provide a month of free subscription as directed by the court.
There have been no official statements from the company regarding this matter. The price adjustments were made to reflect the current market conditions in Nigeria, including high inflation and naira devaluation.
