Mikel Arteta was speaking during the post-match press conference after the game where he confirmed that he was confident that Arsenal would be victorious against Real Madrid.
He said,
“That is the beauty of whoever invented this sport. He has never scored a free-kick, we haven’t scored one since September 2021. Tonight we scored two in 12 minutes. What he’s done is incredible. I was very convinced that we could beat them. Declan has never scored a free-kick in his career, we hadn’t scored a direct free-kick since 2021, nobody knows about football.”
Arteta also confirmed that there is nothing wrong with Bukayo Saka despite being substituted during the game.
“Bukayo Saka has not suffered any serious injury. He’s fine, I think it was a kick”
Arsenal will be hoping they can reach the semi-finals of the competition by stopping Real Madrid from staging one of the greatest comebacks in Championship League history.
The second leg will be played at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
