Even without their star players Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez due to preparations for Copa America, as well as three other regular starters, Inter Miami achieved another remarkable victory against the reigning MLS Cup champions.
On Wednesday night at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, a team depleted of key players secured a 2-1 win over the Columbus Crew, courtesy of first-half goals from Ian Fray and Leonardo Campana.
This win comes on the heels of another impressive victory, a recent road win against the Philadelphia Union by the same score, showcasing Inter Miami’s prowess with two triumphs in just five days.
Both Messi and Suarez were absent as they were representing their respective countries, Argentina and Uruguay, in the Copa America. Nevertheless, the win solidified Inter Miami’s position at the top of the Eastern Conference with an outstanding 12-5-3 record.
Speaking on the victory Inter Miami head coach Tata Martino stated, “As I told the players, we were facing a team that is better than us. If we didn’t match their effort and execute the four or five key strategies we had planned, we wouldn’t have been able to win. I think it was a very well-drilled game against the team that to me by far is the best in the league, that plays the best style in the league.”
