Matt Carpenter‘s bounce-back season with the New York Yankees hit a snag on Monday night when he fouled a pitch off of his foot, which caused a fracture.
Carpenter is expected to be out 6-8 weeks as he recovers from the injury.
After his tenure with the St. Louis Cardinals ended on a rough note, Carpenter seemed to have found his stroke again when the Yankees picked him up.
Unfortunately, he may miss the remainder of the regular season.
However, Carpenter himself seems to have a positive outlook on the situation, as he discovered yesterday that he would not need surgery and expressed optimism that he would play again this season.
Matt Carpenter told reporters Wednesday that he is “very encouraged” after hearing that he would not require surgery on the fractured foot he sustained Monday.

No Surgery Needed For Carp
If Carpenter does miss the rest of the regular season, then eight weeks should be plenty of time for him to recover and be ready to go by the time the postseason comes around.
It’s a good thing Carpenter was healthy through the Yankees weekend series with the Cardinals, so that the St. Louis fans could see him again.
But he seems to feel encouraged about the situation.
The fact that he won’t need surgery is good news for both him and the Yankees and keeps the door open for him to return sometime in late September or in the postseason.
It is still a shame though that after enjoying a resurgent stretch, he landed on the injured list and will be out for an extended period of time.
Carpenter’s resurgence has been one of the more interesting stories in baseball this year.
Here’s a guy who the Yankees picked up off of the scrap heap, and somebody who turned his career around.
Time will tell if he can return this season.
