Mats Hummels leaves Borussia Dortmund as a free agent

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed Mats Hummels will leave the Signa Iduna Park, following the expiration of the deal, which ends on June 30, 2024, he will become a free agent.

Mats Hummels spent more than thirteen years at the club and left a mark in winning two Bundesliga titles and DFB-Pokals with the club among numerous other achievements. The defender’s exit from the Black and Yellows was confirmed on the official website on Friday, June 14, 2024.

What did Mats Hummels say to Dortmund fans?

“Dear fans, my time in black and yellow is now coming to an end after more than 13 years. It has been a huge honour and pleasure for me to have played for BVB for so long and to have been part of the journey from 13th place in January 2008. The countless great coaches and fantastic players I have had the honour of meeting here. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you all meet up again at Borsigplatz as soon as possible to celebrate. I will miss you.”

Hummels played 14 season, 508 games and seven trophies during his time at Borussia Dortmund, he played his last game for Bundesliga side against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
