Mason Greenwood has ended his goal drought, as he found the back of the net for his loan club, Getafe, in their match against Celta Vigo.
The goal comes 628 days since his last league goal for Manchester United. The last time Greenwood scored in a competitive league was on January 22, 2022, in a match against West Ham.
The young English international has been making his football comeback with Getafe in Spanish La Liga, following his loan move from Manchester United on September 1.
Since joining the team, Greenwood has faced several challenges, including chants of “Greenwood die” from Osasuna’s traveling supporters during one of his initial appearances in the league.
However, in his fifth league appearance for Getafe, Greenwood finally broke his goal drought, scoring against Celta Vigo 33 minutes into the game, although, the match ended in a 2-2 draw, placing Getafe in the 11th position on the La Liga table.
Recall that Greenwood 21, hard earlier faced a suspension by Manchester United after being charged by the Crown Prosecution Service in October 2022 for attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
However, the case was withdrawn in February 2023 when key witnesses withdrew their statements and refused to cooperate further with investigations.
Despite the withdrawal of the charges, Manchester United faced backlash from their supporters, causing the club to loan out Greenwood.
United stated that it would be more appropriate for him to rebuild his career away from the Old Trafford.
