Hitting in MLB is extremely hard, and not every prospect can produce right out of the gate.

Some of them start hitting since day one, or are productive in their first season; while others can’t fully adapt and adjust to big league pitching.

The Seattle Mariners have a couple of fresh examples for both situations.

Jarred Kelenic, who was brought up last year and has failed to establish himself as an MLB-caliber hitter, has been a disappointment; whereas Julio Rodriguez, the favorite for the Rookie of the Year award in the American League, has been hitting ever since he put on a Mariners uniform.

Both players were involved in the Mariners’ latest transactions.

“Mariners announce roster moves: • Julio Rodriguez activated from 10-day IL • Curt Casali activated from 10-day IL • Jarred Kelenic optioned to Triple-A Tacoma • Luis Torrens designated for assignment,” Mariners reporter Daniel Kremer wrote via Twitter.

Kelenic was recently called up from Triple-A, where he was having a decent season with a .293/.360/.555 line.

Kelenic Keeps Failing In MLB

However, he once again failed to make an impact with the big league club.

He is 2-for-18 in his last seven games, with a.111/.111/.278 line.

Kelenic is in a weird spot because he is too good for Triple-A but has received many chances in the majors and hasn’t produced.

Some people call that a “AAAA player”.

In any case, he just turned 23 years old and still has time on his side.

The Mariners, however, are in the middle of a playoff run so they can’t afford to have him struggling in the bigs at the moment.

He will have to earn his way back eventually, perhaps in September, but it’s clear he has some issues to work on.
