Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester United are ramping up negotiations to extend Kobbie Mainoo’s contract by this summer.
The move comes after initial discussions began in February, to keep the youngster for long-term future at Old Trafford.
INEOS, the new part-owners of Manchester United, have identified Mainoo as a key figure in their project.
Romano revealed that as part of their vision for the club’s future, INEOS aims to elevate Mainoo’s role and establish him as one of the prominent faces of the revamped project.
“INEOS want Kobbie to be one of the faces of the new project,” he said.
The proposed contract extension includes a substantial salary increase along with several add-ons.
Mainoo has been instrumental to United’s season, with his individual brilliance in the midfield, which has attracted attention.
He has also been on the scoresheet, with the most recent coming against Liverpool in a 2-2 draw two weeks back.
