A Nigerian man has taken to social media to recount a terrifying experience of being robbed by an Uber driver and his friend during a ride.
In a video shared via his TikTok page, the man expressed shock over the incident, saying he never imagined falling victim to such an ordeal.
Narrating the event, he explained that he had ordered an Uber to the mall. Upon entering the vehicle, he noticed someone else seated inside and questioned the driver about the extra passenger.
The driver claimed the person was his friend and would be dropped off shortly.
Not long into the ride, the supposed friend reportedly turned to him and demanded that he open his bank app and transfer money, threatening harm if he refused.
“Something happened to me today. I don’t know how to handle it, but I’m alive—and that’s the most important thing,” he began in the video.
“I ordered an Uber to go to the mall. When I got into the car, I saw another man inside. I asked the driver what someone else was doing in the ride, and he said it was his friend who he was just going to drop off somewhere.”
“He told me not to worry and that once we got to a junction, his friend would get down. That was when I should have listened to my instincts and left the car—but I didn’t.”
The victim noted that, fortunately, he only had his Android phone with him and had left his iPhone behind.
“As we continued the trip, I still felt uncomfortable. Then suddenly, the guy shouted, ‘Oya open your account, transfer money now or else something go happen to you.’”
