Two lovers have been taken into custody by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for allegedly staging their kidnap.
The lovers identified as Imaobong Sampson and, Beltus Ebong were reportedly taken into custody in the early hours of today.
They were captured in Mbierebe Obio village, Ibesikpo Asutan, according to a statement released by the state’s police public relations officer, Odiko Macedon. The statement further disclosed that the lovers had demanded a ransom from their family.
According to Macdon, following a report of the kidnap case in the region, members of the command’s Anti-abduction Squad tracked the suspects to their retreat.
He stated that the allegations that the command had received suggested that the alleged abductors were requesting N4 million from Imaobong’s family.
“As a result, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the command embarked on an intense and intelligence-driven investigation to track down the perpetrators and rescue the victim.
“The said purported victim, one Imaobong Sampson ‘M’, and her boyfriend, Beltus Ebong ‘M’, were arrested in their hideout at Mbierebe Obio Village, Ibesikpo Asutan L.G.A,” he stated.
