A group of young people in Benin have come to the streets to protest the presence of popular Nigerian crossdresser Bobrisky in the city.
The demonstration was sparked by allegations that the socialite insulted the revered Oba of Benin in a video that surfaced last year.
The dispute originates from a video in which Bobrisky joked that the Oba of Benin should marry him.
Though intended as a jest, the comment has greatly outraged many citizens, who see it as a rude assault to Benin’s rich cultural legacy.
According to reports, Bobrisky is scheduled to attend an event in the state, provoking a spontaneous and passionate response from the Benin teenagers who assembled en force to express their displeasure.
They brandished placards bearing messages such as “He is a bad influence; We don’t want him in our state,”
The video footage captured during the protest portrays a determined and vocal crowd expressing their rejection of Bobrisky’s presence.
