Lagos government lists areas with high cases of cholera as death toll rises to 21

The Lagos State Government has listed Lagos Island, Kosofe, and Eti Osa as areas with the highest number of cholera cases.

Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Health, Kemi Ogunyemi revealed that the death toll has also risen to 21, an increase of six from the previously recorded fatalities in the State, and 401 cases up from the initial 350 number of infections.

According to her, the rise in cases was anticipated following the Sallah celebrations, during which large gatherings occurred.

She however noted that suspected cases are subsiding across LGAs particularly in previously affected LGAs due to State Government interventions and surveillance efforts.

Ogunyemi stated that the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Health and other affiliated agencies, is  monitoring the situation and introducing effective programmes and activities to curb the spread of the disease.
