PSG officials and Kylian Mbappe representatives met in Paris after the France international asked the commission to get involved. Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid this summer on a free transfer, is claiming that PSG owes him 55 million euros (around $60 million).
The French football league’s legal commission is urging Kylian Mbappe and his former club Paris Saint-Germain to agree to mediation in a dispute over wages and bonuses. PSG agreed with the decision of the commission after it said in a statement that Kylian Mbappe decided to stay off the club’s salary for three months during his transfer saga.
What happened between Kylian Mbappe and PSG?
PSG was disappointed with Mbappe after offering him the most lucrative contract in the club’s history when he signed a new contract in 2022 that was expected to expire in 2025, but the player insisted that the deal was to end on 2024 with an option to extend my an extra year.
Mbappe told the club that he would be leaving at the end of the 2023/24 season as a free agent without accepting to trigger the option of an extra year.
This led to him being left out of the club’s preseason tour to Japan and South Korea. He was also forced to train with fringe players. PSG said it would rather sell him than let the player leave for free in 2024, but he rejected a 300 million euro move to Saudi team Al-Hilal.
The 24-year-old was left out of the opening league game of that season as the rift between both parties continued but eventually let him return to the lineup after positive talks between the two parties which led to his exit to Real Madrid.
