Information reaching hitztv.com.ng has it that Meghan Markle wants Feinstein’s vacant Senate seat..
A major Democratic donor close to California Governor Gavin Newsom – who will choose Feinstein’s replacement – told the Mail on Sunday: “Meghan is definitely a long shot but in the craziness that is US politics these days it’s not an impossibility.
“Crazier things have happened.”
Feinstein was in her sixth term in the Senate and has suffered multiple health issues throughout the year.
Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, may be considering to make a play for Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s seat in the U.S. Senate, according to the Daily Mail.
The Duchess moved back to her hometown of Los Angeles with her husband, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, in 2020 following their announcement they were stepping down from their duties in the British royal family.
Markle is no stranger, but also no veteran of U.S. politics, having pursued advocacy for a handful of issues since her royal return the country. Notable, she has lobbied Congressional Democratic leadership, as well as rank and file senators from both parties like Sens. Patty Murray, D-Wash., and Susan Collins, R-Maine, on supporting paid leave for parents. She has also supported gun safety organizations like Moms Demand Action and visited the unofficial memorial for the Robb Elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, only two days after the mass shooting in solidarity with the victims’ families.
In February, Feinstein announced she would not seek re-election in 2024. On Friday, following her death, her Chief of Staff put out a statement.
It read: “Sadly, Senator Feinstein passed away last night at her home in Washington, D.C. Her passing is a great loss for so many, from those who loved and cared for her to the people of California that she dedicated her life to serving.
“Senator Feinstein never backed away from a fight for what was just and right. At the same time, she was always willing to work with anyone, even those she disagreed with, if it meant bettering the lives of Californians or the betterment of our nation.
