Nigerian veteran Yoruba actress Margaret Bandele Olayinka, fondly known as Iya Gbonkan, has received an overwhelming outpouring of support from Nigerians after she appealed for help.
The renowned actress, who has been in the entertainment industry for decades, recently shared her struggles of not owning a car and relying on public transportation to get around.
Last month, Gist Reel reported Iya Gbonkan’s heartfelt plea, where she expressed her desire for fans to celebrate her while she is still alive, rather than waiting to honor her after her passing.
She candidly revealed her daily routine of boarding buses to reach her destinations, despite her illustrious career in acting.
Moved by her story, Nigerians rallied together to support Iya Gbonkan.
In a recent update, it was reported that Pastor Gabriel, who had seen the viral video, reached out to the actress and personally visited her in Osogbo.
Fueled by his compassion, he immediately took action by mobilizing funds from generous individuals worldwide to help make her dream of owning a car a reality.
The response from the public has been tremendous, with donations pouring in to support Iya Gbonkan’s car and housing project.
As of the latest reports, over 5 million Naira has been contributed towards her cause.
This heartfelt gesture showcases the unity and compassion of Nigerians, who have come together to uplift one of their beloved veteran actresses.
In addition to the generous donations from kind-hearted individuals, fellow Nollywood actresses Abeni Agbon and Tamotiye, who reside nearby, also showed their support by contributing 500,000 Naira towards Iya Gbonkan’s goal.
