As time goes by, Lyta who seemed to be the most promising act among his peers back then has failed to live up to the hype.
His first single, “Time” which featured Olamide, didn’t need too much promotion to become a smash. It was an instant hit. and it helped him bag a Next-Rated award nomination in the Headies for his monster hit debut single, “Time”
With that momentum, Lyta could have easily gone on to be as big as Rema, or Fireboy. Heck, even bigger. But along the way, he slipped. For a while, he didn’t drop any music, then he had issues with his former label, all events leading to his publicized YBNL exit in 2019.
He granted a lot of interviews blaming Olamide and his YBNL label of not doing the right things for his music to go out there. His interview with Naijaloaded shed more light to the happenings and afterwards, he was seen denying having said all he said in a video interview.
That same year, he signed a deal with a certain Doro Music and made the hit “Monalisa,” produced by Killertunes (who was at the time also working with Wizkid.) “Monalisa” got a Davido remix and quickly became his biggest hit, commercially.
Normally, with that buzz around him, the trend was to drop an EP and put his name out there. But what was Lyta doing? He’ll drop one song and go into hibernation.
He was even caught in a video Plagiarism controversy which could have helped him positively but his A&R didn’t see the positivity in the situation.
Balancing his life between his alleged Bipolar affected baby mama and his musical career is another challenge Lyta has. He has moved from seeing all shades of toxicity and positivity from her.
Later that year, Naira Marley came to the rescue and signed the guy to his Marlian Music outfit. To be honest, Lyta’s career has been a lot better since he joined Naira Marley‘s label, but what he’s doing is simply not enough.
We also wouldn’t take less cognizance of the young man’s struggles through label transitions but thankfully in Marlian Music, we can say Lyta is enjoying creative freedom to express his craft but his best is not taking him anywhere close to the standard he set for himself with his breakthrough debut single.
So Guys, The question here is
Is Lyta Still In The Wrong Record Label Or He’s Just Not Good Enough To Handle The Massive Breakout?
