I’m not among the top 10 funniest comedians in Nigeria – AY Makun reveals in new interview

“Nigeria would be better is what I grew up hearing and now I’m in my fifties” -Ayo Makun laments

Ayodeji Richard Makun, popularly known as A.Y, a Nigerian comedian and filmmaker, has created a stir online with his recent remarks about his own comedic prowess.

Despite his considerable success as a stand-up comedian over the years, AY has been labelled “not funny” by critics, particularly on social media.

AY addressed his critics during a recent chat with media personality Toke Makinwa, claiming that stand-up comedy isn’t just about who’s the funniest.

He emphasised the significance of carving out a niche and cultivating a loyal fanbase, both of which he believes have sustained his success and provided him with a living.

AY emphasised that his success does not obligate him to respect those critics who think he is funnier than them.

The filmmaker went on to say that if he had to name the top ten funniest comedians in Nigeria right now, he wouldn’t even include himself.

This comes just weeks after the Nigerian comic star apologised to Davido for making an insensitive joke about the singer at a show in Warri.
