Afrobeats legend Femi Kuti has disclosed he lived a reckless lifestyle as a teenager while explaining why he thought he would die young.
The son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti revealed he didn’t believe he would live to be 60 years old. Kuti explained he had a friend who predicted his untimely death because of the lifestyle he lived during his teenage years.
Kuti told Goldmyne TV that age 60 was a year of self-reflection, to appreciate the time spent with family and friends.
Kuti said, “I thought I would that I would die very young. I had a friend who would look at me and say, ‘this man will die.’
“At the time, I had a bike so he be looking at like ‘this one, you’ll soon die’ because I was so reckless as a teenager.”
He added, “It’s an age where you just reflect on so many things in your life and you know, every moment is now precious with friends, family, and your children. It’s an unbelievable age. I thought 50 was good, but 60 is greater.”
The ‘As We Struggle’ crooner clocked 60 years old on June 16, 2022. His sister, Yeni Kuti, who also arranged a surprise birthday bash for him presented him with a car gift.
