“I earn N4.2m, paid tax of N1.4m monthly” – Canada-based Nigerian lady laments over high tax deductions in the country

A Canadian woman, @foya2005 on TikTok, expressed her annoyance at the large amount of money that her monthly paycheck is being withheld by taxes.

The woman said in a post that she made 6,200 CAD (about N4.2 million) a month, but only 4,100 CAD left in her pocket after a sizeable 2,100 CAD (about N1.4 million) went toward taxes.

@foya2005 captioned her video, expressing her dissatisfaction.

She wrote;

“Realizing I made 6,200 a month but only took home 4,100 because of taxes. Yes, that is the life we live here, paying taxes that we don’t even know where they go.”

Since then, the message has attracted attention, with many people asking whether the tax system is fair and expressing sympathy for her circumstances.

When asked about her profession, @foya2005 stated that, in light of her credentials and abilities, she believes she is underpaid and underemployed.

“Believe me, I’m under-employed and underpaid for my skills and education,” the lady said.
