Harry Winks joins Sampdoria on loan from Tottenham

Sampdoria have confirmed the signing of midfielder Harry Winks from Tottenham on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

The 26-year-old spent most of last season operating as a late substitute under Antonio Conte and was pushed down the pecking order by the arrival of Yves Bissouma from Brighton.

Winks, who did not make any of Tottenham’s matchday squads this season, has now sealed his move to Sampdoria.

The Serie A side also confirmed that they will have the option to sign Winks permanently next summer.

A product of the Tottenham academy, Winks has 203 appearances for the club to his name following his debut in the 2014/15 season and started the 2018/19 Champions League final, but a combination of injuries and poor form saw him struggle to hold down a permanent starting spot under various managers.

He becomes the third midfielder to be shipped out on loan by Conte this summer, following Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso in leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on initial temporary deals.
