Governors Wives’ Make Move Against Domestic Violence, Child Abuse

The Nigeria Governors Wives’ Forum has appealed for the assistance of public and private organizations as well as individuals in order to combat gender-based and domestic violence, child abuse, and human trafficking in the nation.

At the opening of the Better Health for Rural Women, Children, and Internally Displaced Foundation (BERWO), a pet project of Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwifuru, the wife of the governor of Ebonyi State, the forum made the call.

The spouses of the governors of Imo State, Ogun State, and Cross River State, Mrs. Eyoanwan Otu, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, and Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma, attended the event, which was held at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.

They praised Mrs. Nwifuru for her project, which aims to improve women’s and children’s health, education, and general well-being, with a particular focus on rural residents and the state’s most vulnerable citizens.

Mrs. Nwifuru stated that her strong passion and care for women’s, children’s, and vulnerable people’s welfare drove her to establish the foundation.

The governor’s wife stated that the foundation was established with the intention of reducing the suffering of the oppressed, raising awareness to stop gender-based violence (GBV), standing up for victims, and encouraging second-chance education for the state’s citizens.

She claimed that by working together, the project will produce the best outcomes and have a lasting effect.

She was grateful to Governor Francis Nwifuru, her husband, and his predecessor, former Governor Dave Umahi, who is currently a minister of Works, for providing her with the means to realize her aspirations.

In his speech, Governor Nwifuru promised that the state government would support the foundation because, as he remarked, it will raise people’s standards of living and give rural residents a purpose in life.

The governor praised Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the president, for motivating governors’ spouses to provide a high standard of living for the community.

Umahi also stated at the event that enhancing statewide health is critical to raising the general well-being of the populace.
