Gerardo Martino makes changes to Mexico’s 21-player roster for Paraguay friendly

Head coach Gerardo Martino has made some changes to Mexico’s 21-player roster for the upcoming friendly against Paraguay.

The match does not fall on a FIFA-sanctioned date, propelling Martino to depend on an all-Liga MX squad. But the Mexican league’s weekend action forced adjustments to the squad, seeing Club America’s Henry Martin replaced by Chivas figure Angel Zaldivar and Sebastian Cordova forgo the call up.

Martin suffered a muscle injury on his left thigh against Mazatlan, leaving the pitch in the second half as a cautionary move. Though he is expected to make a quick recovery, Mexico and Club America thought it’d be best not to risk the World Cup-bound player.

Cordova also picked up a knock during his latest appearance for Tigres, leaving the pitch injured during the 1-1 draw against Pumas.

With the team’s most notable figures missing, Martino will give new players a chance to fight for a World Cup slot.
