The Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST), Wudil, will now be call Aliko Dangote University as approved by the Kano State House of Assembly.
Following a request letter by the state executive in May 2022, the State House of Assembly deliberated and adopted the new name during a plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Hamisu Chidari on Tuesday, October 11.
According to the majority leader of the House, Labaran Madari, the lawmakers support the state government’s initiative considering the contributions of Aliko Dangote to education in the state.
In May 2022, Kano State Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, had issued a statement on the approval of renaming the university and referred to the House for approval.
Aliko Dangote has been the Chancellor of the university since 2008 after being appointed by the former governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekaru. He has maintained the position as the incumbent governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, reappointed him in November 2021.

Kano University of Science and Technology Wudil was established as Kano University of Technology in 2001, but in 2005 it was turned into a university.
