Nigerian filmmaker cum movie actress, Funke Akindele took to Instagram to honour her late mother, R. B. Adebanjo-Akindele, on what would have been her 70th birthday.
The emotional tribute included touching words, photos, and a video, capturing the essence of a beloved matriarch whose influence shaped Funke’s illustrious career. Funke Akindele wrote in part:
“Happy 70th birthday to the most selfless, loving, and supportive mom in the world! Today would have been a monumental milestone, and I wish you were here to celebrate with me.”
Her message reflected deep admiration and gratitude, describing her mother as a pivotal figure in her life and career. Funke reminisced about her mother’s unwavering support, highlighting how it fueled her success in the entertainment industry. The mother of two added:
“Your unwavering belief in my dreams, especially my acting career, has been the driving force behind my success. I remember when I struggled in academics, you didn’t push me to conform; instead, you encouraged my passion for dance and drama.”
The actress also expressed her enduring gratitude for her mother’s sacrifices and the enduring legacy she left behind. Funke Akindele concluded:

Funke’s heartfelt tribute comes just over a year after the passing of her mother in February 2023. Despite the loss, Funke achieved a career milestone the same year with the release of her blockbuster film, A Tribe Called Judah, which grossed an impressive N1.4 billion in the box office.
