France struggled to a 1-0 win over Austria in their Euro 2024 opener, but the win was overshadowed by Kylian Mbappé’s nose injury.
The match, held in Dusseldorf, saw Austria’s aggressive tactics almost derail the French side.
Austria’s Maximilian Wober scored an own goal, gifting France the lead. The mistake occurred after intense pressure from Mbappe.
However, Austrian aggression limited France’s scoring opportunities, but they couldn’t completely shut down the French attack.
Mbappe nearly scored in the first ten minutes, forcing Austrian keeper Patrick Pentz into a save.
In the second half, Mbappe nearly extended France’s lead but missed narrowly after beating several defenders.
The biggest concern for France came when Mbappe clashed heads with Kevin Danso, resulting in a bloody nose and his substitution.
Despite the injury, Mbappe walked off the field unaided, to give some relief to Real Madrid.
