At Calabar, Cross River, Watt, a well-known market, goods estimated to be worth millions of naira were completely destroyed by fire on Thursday morning.
Six stores in the shopping center where the fire incident happened were impacted by the fire, which is reported to have started at around two in the morning.
When Mrs. Olumayowa Olomola, the Commanding Officer of the Federal Fire Service’s Calabar Command, confirmed the incident to reporters, she stated that a power surge in one of the market’s shopping malls was the cause of the fire.
The stores were well-stocked, according to Olomola, who was unable to estimate the amount of goods destroyed in the impacted stores.
She claimed that more stores would have been impacted by the fire if her team hadn’t acted quickly to put it out.
“Our response was prompt, and we could only stop the fire from spreading past the six impacted shops,” Olomola stated.
“My advice is that in order to prevent situations like this one, we should always take preventative measures by making sure we turn off all appliances. “
