Super Eagles drop in latest FIFA Ranking

The Super Eagles of Nigeria went down the ladder in the latest ranking, which was released by the body governing football the world, FIFA.

FIFA confirmed the latest ranking for May 2024 on its official website on Thursday, June 20, 2024. Nigeria went down from 30th to 38th in the world ranking and fifth in Africa. The top four teams on the continent are Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Cote d’Ivoire.

Nigeria’s current ranking was due to the team’s poor results against South Africa and Benin Republic, which ended in a draw and defeat, respectively.

The other countries in Nigeria’s group also made a move on the ranking, South Africa remained in 59th position while Benin Republic moved up to 91st position. The Eagles’ next opponents , Rwanda and Zimbabwe, are ranked 131st and 129th, respectively.

Argentina remains in first place, followed by France and Belgium. Brazil and England have swapped places, with Brazil now fourth and England fifth. Portugal, the Netherlands, and Spain remain in the top ten, while Croatia has moved up to ninth and Italy complete the top ten.
