Family Reveals What Caused The Death Of Former KTN Anchor Michael Oyier

Media personality Michael Oyier was honored and remembered by a gathering of family, friends, and colleagues at a Requiem Mass held at Nairobi’s All Saints Cathedral on Wednesday morning May 1, 2024.

At 48, Oyier passed away on April 20, 2024, a few days after suffering a stroke.

Known for his roles as a news anchor and presenter on KTN, where he served for over a decade, Oyier was celebrated for his professionalism and ability to uplift those around him.

Before KTN, he held prominent positions at Classic 105 and Kiss100, showcasing his versatility in the media industry.

Fond memories of Oyier were shared by his loved ones during the service.

Curtis Murungi, a friend from St Mary’s School, reminisced about Oyier’s infectious smile and genuine care for others.

Olga, his sister, highlighted his role as a supportive brother and guardian, especially during challenging times.

“He served as a supportive brother who took care of me after Dad’s death, arranging for his girlfriends to accompany me in certain situations. He accompanied me on my spiritual journey, serving as a guardian and protector, offering guidance and ensuring my wellbeing,” said Olga.

Paul, Oyier’s brother, emotionally recounted their close bond and the profound loss he felt at Oyier’s passing.

Despite the devastation, Paul expressed gratitude for Oyier’s unwavering support, particularly during moments of illness.

He shared a poignant recollection of the night Oyier suffered a stroke, emphasizing Oyier’s resilience and determination in the face of adversity.

“My brother looked after me when I was sick. You don’t get a brother and sister to hire a chef to cook food that’s good for the brain and rearrange your whole life.

Paul emotionally recalled how his late brother battled stroke which ultimately caused his death.

“I was Mike’s first responder. We were alone in the house, he was asleep, and at about 2am I got a call. When I heard the phone and looked over, it was Mike and I couldn’t understand what he was saying.

“He was speaking gibberish and I rushed over. I saw my brother and the signs were that he had had a stroke. Michael fought to the end. He told me how to take care of him at that moment. He fought to the end. We did our best,” he said.

Michael Oyier will be buried on 3 May 2024 at his home in Kanyada Katuma, Homa Bay County.
