Violet Olinga died at the hospital after delivering a baby boy on August 8 and her body had remained unclaimed until recently.
The baby has been under the care of the hospital since then as efforts to trace her family bore no fruits.
Violet left home in 2022 to look for a job in Nairobi but in June the same year, she disappeared. Efforts of her family to trace her were however unsuccessful.
“Her landlord in Githurai 44 looked for the family and told us Violet left her door open and supper uneaten before going missing,” the deceased’s father told a local media outlet.
The family eventually got Violet’s body after someone shared online about an unclaimed body at KNH.
The hospital however couldn’t release the body for burial due to Kshs250,000 bill.
Comedian Eric Omondi has however vowed that Violet will be laid to rest this weekend.
He also vowed to take care of Violet’s baby through his foundation.
“Last year on August 11th Violet Olinga died at Kenyatta National Hospital after giving birth to a beautiful Bouncing baby boy. Violet has been in the Mortuary for 7 months due to a Ksh 250k bill with the baby under the care of the hospital and family members.
“We are going to Raise the required Ksh 250k plus extra for her burial. We will bury her this SATURDAY and take care of the infant boy. TEAM SISI KWA SISI SEND WHATEVER YOU CAN TO VIOLET’S FATHER ON 0746573473( NAME: IGNATIUS JAMO). LETS GIVE HER A GOOD REST,” Eric said.
He has since paid Kshs130,000 of the bill.
