DC United center-back Brendan Hines-Ike is set to be sidelined for up to six months after undergoing surgery on his foot.
Hines-Ike was forced out of DC’s recent 3-0 defeat to Charlotte FC due to injury, subsequently missing last week’s 0-0 draw with the New York Red Bulls.

An X-Ray on Hines-Ike’s foot revealed the defender had suffered a Lisfranc injury; a mid-foot sprain.
DC United revealed on Friday that Hines-Ike underwent surgery to repair the issue a day earlier, performed by Dr. Robert Anderson of Bellin Health Titletown Sports Medicine and Orthopedics in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
The Black and Red estimated Hines-Ike’s recovery period at between four-and-a-half and six months.
The absence of Hines-Ike will place considerable pressure on Wayne Rooney’s backline. The former KV Kortrijk defender had started all but two MLS matches for DC United prior to suffering the injury with only center-back partner Steven Birnbaum ranking higher at the club for aerial duels won and clearances.
DC United remain rooted to the bottom of the Eastern Conference table but are still only eight points behind the MLS Cup Playoffs spots having played one game less than most of their rivals.
Rooney’s side travel to the New England Revolution on Saturday.
