Civil servants lock out Accountant-General in Abia State protest over unpaid salaries

In a demonstration of frustration and discontent over months of unpaid salaries, civil servants in Abia State took a decisive stand on Tuesday by locking the office of the Accountant-General.

The workers, based in Umuahia, the state capital, vowed not to relent until their long-overdue wages were disbursed.

The protest, which unfolded at the Ministry of Finance office complex, saw employees from various departments uniting in their call for action.

The incensed workers took the unprecedented step of barricading entrances to the office of Mrs. Njum Onyemenam, the Accountant-General.

A video clip that circulated online captured the workers inside the premises while the main gate remained locked.

A witness who was present during the demonstration shared, “All entrances leading to the Accountant-General’s office have been locked by the workers.”
