Chelsea are reportedly interested in appointing Bayer Leverkusen‘s head coach Xabi Alonso with immediate effect.
According to reports by Sport Zone, Alonso has been sort after by the Blues to take over from Mauricio Pochettino who is struggling to keep the Blues in consistent form.
Chelsea’s co-owner Behdad Eghbali is said to admire Alonso’s work at Leverkusen and is keen on bringing him to Stamford Bridge.
Following their recent defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Chelsea find themselves in the bottom half of the Premier League table, 14 points away from the top four.
Meanwhile, Leverkusen secured a 2-0 victory over Darmstadt, maintaining their two-point lead over Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga ahead of their clash with the reigning champions.
However, Chelsea may face stiff competition for Alonso’s services, accoridng to Gety Football Germany.
The 42-year-old coach is reportedly a highly sought-after manager in Europe, with Bayern Munich and Liverpool also expressing interest in him.
With Jürgen Klopp set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season and Thomas Tuchel facing pressure at Bayern due to underwhelming performances, Alonso is expected to have several options to consider before making a decision on his future.
