According to reports, the Ekiti government has sued Chef Dammy’s pastor, Pastor Jeremiah, for damages on his behalf.
Chef Dammy, a Nigerian chef, has filed a rights infringement lawsuit against Jeremiah Adegoke and the Ekiti State Police Command at the Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti.
The lawsuit was filed by the Ekiti State Ministry of Justice’s Directorate of Citizens Rights (DCR).
The DCR also asked the court to stop Mr. Adegoke and the police from detaining Chef Dammy and to award her N10 million in damages for her unsuccessful attempt to break a Guinness World Record.
The lawsuit was filed less than a week after Chef Dammy was reportedly arrested on the orders of her pastor, Mr Adegoke.
The 24-year-old raised concerns in October about alleged harassment and constant threats from “people of God” and her pastor, sparking the conflict between Chef Dammy and her pastor.
The 300-level Mass Communication student at Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) stated that she had been intimidated and harassed, leaving her constantly fearful for her life.
It’s unclear what the chef and her once-supportive pastor were arguing about, but it appears that their disagreement was sparked by the failed cook-a-thon.
The lawsuit seeks a declaration that the continued harassment, molestation, threat of arrest, and intimidation by the pastor, allied with Mr Samuel and the Nigerian police, infringes on the applicant’s fundamental human rights.
The lawsuit further demands a restraining order preventing Chef Dammy’s arrest and seeks a compensation of N10 million for aggravation and damages.
