There has been much speculation on what kind of monarch King Charles III will be now that he has ascended to the British throne, but at least one royal expert is optimistic about his reign.
“I actually think he’s going to come into his own,” Tina Brown, author of “The Palace Papers,” tells Page Six exclusively. “I think he’s going to be a good king.”
Brown explains that Charles — who at age 73 is the oldest person in British history to assume the throne following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on Thursday — is “highly trained” and “very authentic.”
The “Diana Chronicles” author also notes that Charles was long considered a crank because of his views on climate but is now seen as prophetic.
In 1970, the new monarch gave his first speech on the “climate emergency” and stressed the need to combat pollution.
“He’s always had his eccentric passions, but he’s also been very prescient, very ahead of the curve,” Brown tells us. “He’s no longer seen as cranky; he’s seen as correct.
“I think that [as] king, he’s going to make his moment in a very good way because [he is becoming king] when everyone’s belief in his ideas has come around full circle. He’s going to be a very authentic voice and probably a very powerful voice as a global leader in the climate change issue.”
It’s a passion that Charles shares with his eldest son, Prince William, who last year launched The Earthshot Prize, which awards grants to five winners each year for their contributions to environmentalism.
Brown also praises Charles’ wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, who will now be known as Queen Consort.
“I think she’s tough, she’s stoic, she’s got a sense of humor,” Brown shares. “I think she’s a really undersung character, and you know, she’s never said a damn word about her relationship with Charles. She’s never complained.
“She’s always said the family motto is ‘Thou shalt not whine,’ and she hasn’t whined. She’s had the most appalling things said about her, but she never complains.”
