The case was brought to light when one Tony Umegborodu reported the matter at Gwagwalada police station on July 28.
The defendant reportedly took away chairs, kitchen utensils (whose value is yet unknown), an Itel cell phone valued at N36,000, and a substantial sum of N850,000 in cash. The destination to which she fled with the children remains unknown at this time.
The charges leveled against Ogochukwu Edward Ogochukwu include abandonment of spouse and theft.
These offenses are in violation of Section 16 of the Violence Against Persons (VAP) Act and Section 287 of the Penal Code.
During the court proceedings on Tuesday, August 1, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against her.
The presiding Judge, Abdullahi Abdulkarim, granted her bail in the sum of N50,000 and required one reasonable surety in a like amount. The surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
The court has set the date for the hearing on September 28, 2023, when both parties will have the opportunity to present their cases and evidence.
