Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has said that Brentford’s equalizer on Saturday, February 11, should have been disallowed for being offside.
Arsenal surrendered a 1-0 lead in the 74th minute after Ivan Toney headed in an equalizer for Brentford at close range.
Though the goal was reviewed by VAR and allowed to stand, Arteta felt it should have been disallowed.
Speaking to reporters after the match, he said;
“Yes. I just looked and it is offside, yes. It is frustrating but they will probably give an explanation later in the week. Today we haven’t got one. You have to apply certain principles in defending but that depends on you following the rules.”
The draw could see Arsenal’s lead on the Premier League table reduced to three should Manchester City beat Aston Villa today, February 12.
