Borussia Dortmund’s midfielder, Jude Bellingham has been named the Bundesliga player of the season.
19-year-old Bellingham was key in his side’s title challenge this season. Dortmund however squandered a two-point lead on the Bundesliga table and conceded the league title to Bayern Munich after a 2-2 draw against Mainz on the final matchday.
He scored eight goals and provided five assists in 31 league appearances this season as Dortmund finished runners-up to Bayern Munich who won the league title on goal difference.
Accepting the Bundesliga player of the season award, Bellingham said;
“Every year or half-year that I’ve played at the club, my responsibility in the team has increased. I have to continue to be everywhere on the pitch and try my best to contribute going forwards and backwards and try and control games, try to dominate the midfield.
“My team-mates, the coaches and the staff have helped me to develop. I came to the club as a talented lad, but I have added elements to my game that have taken it to the next level and I think that’s down to them, mainly.”
Bellingham, who turns 20 next month, captained Dortmund this season and it made him the club’s youngest-ever skipper.
He has been strongly linked to a move away from Germany this summer, with Real Madrid reportedly leading the race for his signature.
