Lynn, the league’s all-time leading run-scorer, will be available for the first 11 regular season games before departing to play in the UAE’s new T20 competition.
That means he won’t be with the Strikers for the last three matches or the finals.
His move to the UAE-based competition required approval from Cricket Australia, and he goes with their blessing.
It comes after Lynn was let go by the Brisbane Heat, having made just 215 runs last season at an average of 17.9, and the power-hitter is out to prove a point when he heads south.
“I’ll be coming down to Adelaide fit and strong and ready to score a heap of runs and even more importantly, put on a show for the fans, who are the backbone of the Adelaide Strikers,” Lynn said.
“It always such a great atmosphere walking into Adelaide Oval, and not only that but walking over the bridge on game day, the atmosphere in the city is great.”
If Lynn can find top form it’s a huge addition for the Strikers, having churned out more than 3000 runs across his time in the competition.
A Cricket Australia statement confirmed he would be released from January 20 to play in the ILT20’s inaugural edition.
“Lynn does not hold a CA or state contract and has not done so since his last Queensland Cricket contract expired in June 2019,” a Cricket Australia spokesperson told the Nine newspapers.
“Each matter regarding release for overseas competitions is subject to the individual’s circumstances.
“Our guiding principle remains the prioritisation and protection of Australia’s domestic summer of cricket and the interests of the game overall.”
Lynn thanked the parties for working together to make sure he could play in both competitions.

“I’d like to thank Cricket Australia for how cooperative they’ve been as well as the Adani group from the Emirates, they’ve been really proactive in understanding the situation,” he said.
“Without those guys and CA working together it wouldn’t be possible, I’ve got a lot of respect for those guys.”
