Barcelona have intentions of hosting all of their Women’s Champions League games this season at Camp Nou following the successes of back-to-back sell-outs in 2021/22.
Barça Femeni typically play home games at the 6,000-capacity Estadi Johan Cruyff at the club’s training complex. But with a first ever UWCL Clasico against Real Madrid to be played in the quarter-finals, the decision was made to switch the home leg to Camp Nou.
Barça set a new world record attendance for a women’s football match, welcoming 91,553 people through the gates. Just under a month later, the first leg of the semi-final against Wolfsburg was also played at Camp Nou, setting another world record with an attendance of 91,648.
Speaking to Tot costa show on Catalunya Radio about the upcoming European campaign, Barça Femeni director Xavier Puig revealed: “The idea is to be able to play the entire women’s Champions League at Camp Nou.”
Barça are one of only four clubs to have automatically qualified for this season’s Champions League group stage, alongside Lyon, Chelsea and Wolfsburg.
The remaining 12 qualifiers – seven from the Champions path and five from the League path – will be decided when the final qualifying play-offs take place in late September.
The group stage draw will be made on 3 October, with the first phase to begin on 19/20 October.
The 2023 final is booked in at Philips Stadion in Eindhoven for either 3 or 4 June.
