Bandits kidnap 5 female students of Katsina University

Gunmen suspected to be bandits stormed the off-campus dormitories of the Federal University, Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State, kidnapping 5 female students in the early hours of Wednesday, October 4, 2023.

The assailants, whose identities remain unknown, reportedly invaded the students’ living quarters located behind Mariamoh Ajiri Memorial School, Dutsinma, along Tsaskiya road.

According to eyewitnesses, the armed men forcibly seized the students and fled the scene before authorities could respond.

Sources close to the university revealed that all five victims hail from Kano and Nasarawa states, with two of them being in their final year of studies.

Five of them (the students) were kidnapped, they are from Kano and Nasarawa states and two of them are final year students,” one of the students at the university told newsmen.

Habibu Umar Aminu, the head of the Public Relations Unit at FUDMA, confirmed the disturbing incident, stating that it occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

Aminu emphasized that the university administration, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, has initiated concerted efforts to secure the safe release of the kidnapped students.

In response to the incident, the Katsina State Police Command has swung into action.

According to ASP Sadiq Aliyu Abubakar, spokesperson for the command, one individual suspected of providing information to the abductors has been apprehended.

Furthermore, several other individuals have been arrested due to their suspected involvement in the abduction.
