Mario Balotelli is on the brink of a comeback to Serie A, with Genoa reportedly scheduling a medical for the 34-year-old Italian forward early next week.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio and Sky Sport Italia, the Grifone have secured Balotelli as a free agent following an extended search for an additional striker.
Balotelli, who last played for Adana Demirspor in Turkey, scoring seven goals in 16 appearances, has been vocal about his desire to return to Italy, turning down international offers this summer.
He is expected to sign a short-term contract with Genoa until the 2024-25 season, with a salary estimated at €400,000-€500,000, including performance-related bonuses.
If the deal proceeds, Balotelli will join Genoa’s ranks with high hopes for a memorable Serie A return after a career spanning stints with Inter Milan, Manchester City, Liverpool, and AC Milan.
