Bala Mohammed originally known as Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, is a Nigerian politician, born on October 5, 1958, has been the governor of Bauchi State since 2019.
From 2010 to 2015, he was Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and from 2007 to 2010, he was Senator for Bauchi South. He is a prominent member of the largest opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party.
He began his public service career as an administrative officer at the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs, where he worked until 1994, when he was appointed as the Presidency’s Principal Administration Officer. Bala Mohammed advanced fast through the ranks of the civil service.

Bala Mohammed Early Life
On October 5, 1958, he was born to Fulani parents in Duguri town, Alkaleri local government area, Bauchi State. He began his education in 1965 at Duguri Primary School in Bauchi, where he graduated with honors in 1971. He attended Government School Bauchi from 1972 to 1976, when he obtained his WAEC.
North East College of Art and Science awarded him an advanced-level recognition in 1979. He furthered his education by obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maiduguri.

Bala Mohammed Career
Governor Isa Yuguda, his political godfather, reportedly lost him after Yuguda married President Umaru Yar’Adua’s daughter and switched to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
After the death of Umaru Yar’Adua, Mohammed joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and became close to President Goodluck Jonathan.
Bala Mohammed stood for and was elected senator of Bauchi State’s South Senatorial Zone in 2007 on the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party [ANPP].
He gained to fame as one of Nigeria’s most outspoken politicians while serving in the Senate. Bala Mohammed served on eight committees, including the Northern Senators Forum as secretary and the Senate Committee on Aviation as vice chairman.
Communication, finance, public accounting, rules and business, environment, labor, and productivity were among the committees.
Senator Bala Mohammed was sworn in as the Governor of Bauchi State under the Peoples Democratic Party banner on May 29, 2019, after defeating the incumbent Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, by 515,313 votes to 500,625 votes. The victory was upheld by the Supreme Court on January 20, 2020.
