Aside Red and Yellow cards, Blue cards set to be introduced in football

Professional football is set to introduce blue cards as part of sin-bin trials, marking the first new colour of card widely used in 50 years.

Currently, football only employs yellow and red cards, however, the report suggests that on Friday, the International Football Association Board (IFAB) will unveil this groundbreaking move.

As part of new measures, players who commit cynical fouls or show dissent toward a match official will be removed from play for 10 minutes, according to the UK Telegraph.

Players risk being sent off if they accumulate two blue cards in a match or a combination of a blue and a yellow card.

Elite trials may commence this summer, though top-tier competitions will be excluded from initial testing.
