After 17 years of disappearance, woman welcomes runaway husband, sends lover packing

A Kenyan woman from the town of Lurambi, welcomed her husband, Boniface Moi Muyeshi, back into her life with open arms, 17 years after he mysteriously disappeared.

The joyous reunion has captivated the local community, who celebrated with singing, dancing, and a traditional ceremony.

Boniface Moi Muyeshi, now 42 years old, had left his family in 2006, heading to Nairobi without any notice or explanation. Over the years, his absence led Agripina Mulupi to believe he might be deceased.

Struggling to raise their three children alone, she eventually moved on and found love with someone else who took on the role of caring for her and her children.

However, fate had other plans in store for the family when Boniface suddenly showed up unannounced in Emukoyani. Locals were overjoyed to see the prodigal son return, and a jubilant atmosphere filled the air as they celebrated his long-awaited homecoming.

The community marked the occasion with a traditional welcoming, including a ram slaughter, a prayer session, and a cleansing ceremony.

He left home for Nairobi back in 2006. He left his family behind never to be seen again,” a resident said.

While Boniface had hoped to reunite with his wife, he was disheartened to learn that she had entered into a relationship with another man and had a child with him. Despite the initial challenges, Agripina Mulupi reflected on the situation and made the difficult decision to end her current relationship and reunite with her long-lost husband.

One of Boniface’s relatives, Fredrick Witumbele, shared that they had suspected he might have fallen victim to the 2007/2008 post-election skirmishes, which could have been a reason for his disappearance.

“We suspected that he had died during the 2007/2008 post election skirmishes,” his relative Fredrick Witumbele said.

For Agripina Mulupi, raising their three children alone had been an arduous task, leading her to seek companionship and support elsewhere. However, with her husband’s return, she expressed her determination to rekindle their relationship and co-parent their children together.

“I settled down with someone else as I was not able to raise these children on my own. I had to send my current lover away as the man of the house had made a return. We will make plans on how to co-parent,” she added.
