Tatjana Smith from South Africa claimed Africa’s first gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in the 100m breaststroke. Smith made a remarkable comeback to win the race with a time of 1:05.28, edging out China’s Tang Qianting, who took silver, and Ireland’s Mona McSharry, who earned bronze. This victory was Smith’s first Olympic gold, following her close second-place finish at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
