Arsenal’s 17-year-old starlet Ethan Nwaneri stole the spotlight with a stunning goal in their 3-0 Carabao Cup victory over Preston, leaving manager Mikel Arteta visibly proud. This wasn’t a one-time showcase, either, as Nwaneri had previously netted twice in Arsenal’s 5-1 win over Bolton in the earlier round.
Nwaneri’s performance against Preston was especially remarkable, with his goal demonstrating both his skill and confidence on the field. He nearly scored again with a late shot that hit the crossbar, narrowly missing a second goal.
When asked about Nwaneri’s display, Arteta commented, “He did it yesterday in training, so we’re starting to expect it. He’s a tremendous talent with a great attitude, the right support around him, and we need to continue building him up carefully, step by step. He’s a special player!”
Arteta also discussed how they’ll nurture Nwaneri’s growth without stifling his progress, saying, “He’ll ultimately shape his own path, but I’m incredibly pleased with him… He’s driven to make every touch count and create opportunities. Off the pitch, he’s still a bit reserved around the squad, which is normal at his age. But his work ethic is fantastic, and he’s truly passionate about the game.”
Despite his standout performances in the Carabao Cup, it remains unlikely that Nwaneri will start in Arsenal’s upcoming Premier League match against Newcastle on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
