Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen collapses during Euro 2020 game today. He was immediately transferred to the hospital and been stabilised.
The Inter Milan midfielder stumbled forward in the 43rd minute and then fell to the turf as Thomas Delaney looked to throw the ball towards him to restart play in the Group B fixture.
English referee Anthony Taylor, alongside Danish players Delaney and Martin Braithwaite, among others, immediately waived towards the medical team to rush onto the pitch to assist the 29-year-old.
Eriksen was quickly given CPR by medics, with both sets of players looking on with great concern.
Uefa has confirmed the game has been “suspended”, due to a “medical emergency”, while another statement confirmed a “crisis meeting” has taken place between both teams and match officials.
Hmmm thank God he survived it.
Comparing today’s incident with that of Sam Okwaraji.
Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji was a professional footballer who played internationally for Nigeria. He was also a qualified lawyer who had a masters in international law from the Pontifical Lateran University of Rome.
Okwaraji collapsed ten minutes from the end of a 1990 World Cup qualifier against Angola in Lagos. He died from possible complications of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy as an autopsy showed that the 25-year-old had an enlarged heart and high blood pressure. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make it alive, he died. May his soul rest in power!
What happened to Christian today might be cardiac arrest or same hypertrophic cardiomyopathy that killed Okwaraji on the pitch. Eriksen was properly taken care of by the medical team, what about Samuel? Was he properly treated or neglected on the pitch? Smh
Should I talk about some former Super Eagle players that are dead broke today, suffering and begging to feed? I drop pen here.
