Mercy Johnson-Okojie, the Nollywood superstar, has come under heavy fire after being caught on camera passionately campaigning for Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer in the fiercely anticipated Edo state election.

In a now-viral video that has sparked an uproar, amid the large crowd gathered at Ward 6 Irruekpen, Esan West LGA with her hubby, Prince Okijie, Mercy delivered her speech with enthusiastic energy.

The movie star was seen energetically urging the crowd to rally behind Okpebholo, promising that the APC candidate is the golden ticket to “bring positive changes” to the state.

“Are you not tired? No light, water, healthcare, security and good roads. If you will vote for senator Monday, raise your hand,” she said.

“…So when you get to that field early in the morning, vote for Monday, vote for APC, vote for the broom.

The video has sparked a wave of outrage on social media, with critics tearing into the actress for backing the ruling party despite the crippling economic hardship plaguing the nation.

Some even warned that Mercy should brace herself for the inevitable backlash, drawing comparisons to her colleague Toyin Abraham, who faced similar heat.

They argued that if Monday Okpebholo disappoints as Edo state’s governor, she’ll have no right to complain or play the victim when netizens come for her.
